Frequently asked questions
Can AdvanceGuard be installed in a remote location?
AdvanceGuard HDR sensors can be installed in remote locations without power and data connections. This is achieved with a renewable power installation such as a solar panel, and a wireless data link. This eliminates expensive civil works and makes installation quicker.
What is the power consumption of the sensor?
Nominal consumption is 18 Watts peaking to 36 Watts at 24VDC.
What is the network bandwidth usage?
AdvanceGuard’s HDR 100 sensors internally process the raw data from the sensor before sending it across the network. The traffic is in the order of kbs per sensor, and depends on the number of objects being tracked. HDR 200 and HDR 300 sensors require an external processing platform.
What connectivity does the sensor support?
Connection to the sensor is via ethernet. Each HDR sensor unit has an RJ45 socket. We recommend cat5 cable that connects the sensors, not to exceed 70m in length. Longer lengths should make use of switches or fibre converters.
What is the ideal mounting height?
The usual mounting height for the HDR sensors is around two metres, though actual mounting height can vary depending on the specific site, the type of sensor and whether the beam is angled. The X variant units have been designed to be mounted from three to six metres, giving a minimum detection range of about six metres for a man walking upright.
What is the beamwidth?
The azimuth beamwidth is 2° for the HDR 100 and HDR 200 series and 1° for the HDR 300 series. The main elevation beamwidth is 2°, 4° and 3° for HDR 100, HDR 200 and HDR 300 series respectively.
At what ambient temperatures can the sensors operate?
Our sensors will operate over -20°C to +60°C. We can offer an extended temperature range down to -40°C on request.
Can the HDR sensors be used on the move?
Not as an intruder detection device, as the sensor has to be static in order to be able to detect movement.
Will AdvanceGuard work at sea?
Our solution can be specialised for operation in a marine environment utilising wave suppression and target path plotting to minimize wave activity and false alarms.
Can the HDR sensor be inverted?
Occasionally there is a need to mount the sensors up side down, from the roof for example. Please contact us to discuss the application.
What is the indicative range of the radar?
The long range, high definition radars vary in their indictive range. The indictive range for the HDR300 is up to 3km. For the HDR200, the range is 1km, and the HDR100 is up to 300m.
What is the minimum time required to detect an object?
The default object tracking settings require the HDR sensor to ‘see’ a potential object three times out of five revolutions before determining a positive threat (this reduces false alarms). If the sensor is operating at 4Hz, it will take 1.25 seconds to register. If the sensor is operating at 1Hz, it will take five seconds to register.
What is the operating frequency and bandwidth of the radar?
All HDR sensors operate in the W band, from 76 GHz to 77GHz.
What output power does the sensor emit?
The transmitted power will be within the limits specified by EN301 091. Peak EIRP is between +42dBm to +55dBm EIRP and the average is between 16dBm to 29dBm EIRP.
Does AdvanceGuard interfere with aviation systems?
All HDR sensors conform to ETSI standard EN301 091. Confirmation of compliance with aviation systems is the responsibility of the systems integrator/end user.
What is the safe working distance?
Each sensor has a different safe working distance. A typical value for a rotating HDR sensor is just 3cm from the antenna within the radome. Please contact Navtech for certified data by sensor type.
Is AdvanceGuard affected by adverse weather conditions?
AdvanceGuard maintains its stated performance levels regardless of rain, fog, snow and varying light levels.
Is AdvanceGuard susceptible to jamming?
Susceptibility is very low. Each AdvanceGuard HDR sensor would need to be jammed from all azimuths – a point source jammer would affect only a single azimuth. Jammer technology operating at the correct sweep frequency within the 76-77GHz band would be very difficult to produce with an output power sufficient to jam the radar.
Does AdvanceGuard provide other interfaces?
AdvanceGuard can interface with third party systems via ICD-001, ICD-100, Asterix CAT-10 and/or multiple ethernet relay units, providing multiples of 6 digital inputs and 6 relay outputs. These I/O lines can be linked to various actions/events within Witness Software.
What cameras does AdvanceGuard support?
AdvanceGuard currently supports a selection of cameras. Additional cameras can be added (at cost) if they support industry standard interfaces such as ONVIF, as well as absolute positioning commands.
What training is offered?
Navtech offers both customer and system integrator (SI) training. Customer training enables a user to respond to and interact with AdvanceGuard events. SI training includes customer training, commissioning of the system, camera and ancillaries, as well as training on how to present AdvanceGuard to your customers in support of your own business development activities.
