After a redesign of the terminal at Bristol Airport, the size of the infrastructure and number of passengers at the airport increased. With the new expansion, it was discovered a critical part boundary was identified as a security hazard. The critical part was in close proximity to an area of open ground. Therefore, there was potential for unauthorised personnel to easily cross the open area and gain access to the airport.
About the project
The airport decided a fully automated wide-area surveillance system was the best solution, as it would result in significant operational benefits and reduced on-going costs. Navtech’s AdvanceGuard system was chosen and one radar was installed alongside PELCO Espirit TI thermal cameras to cover the critical area and for perimeter security at Bristol Airport. Navtech provided Bristol Airport with increased security whilst also eliminating the cost of manned guarding in the critical area.
