Meet the Team – Sian Hawley

Can you describe your role at Navtech Radar in just three words?

As someone who proudly wears many hats, my role isn’t just about managing inspirational customer accounts but also leading an incredible team. Together, we’re diving deep into the realms of marine and mining automation, revolutionising industries with cutting-edge radar sensors. From nurturing client relationships to steering my talented team, every day is a new adventure.

What is the most exciting thing that you have worked on so far?

The autonomous applications with which we have been involved. From mining trucks, straddle carriers for ports to marine vessels, it amazes me what can be achieved. I feel privileged to see these applications come to life and customer’s operations improving because of our technology.

When I tell my daughter about what we do, and that one-day autonomous vehicles and vessels will be a normal part of her life, she smiles with excitement. It makes me happy to know that some of technology developments, which we are working on, will benefit her generation.

What do you most enjoy about being a part of the Navtech Radar team?

I am an ‘ideas’ person. I love creating something new or finding a solution to a problem. In Industrial Automation, I am lucky to be surrounded by a like-minded team, where the ideas and solutions are in constant flow, not only creating momentum, but solutions too!

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

All I knew was I wanted to grow up quickly and be an adult, with the freedom to do whatever I wanted and travel the world!

Now I have grown up and have a bit of travel under my belt, I have also realised adult life isn’t quite as unfettered as I had hoped. The option of being a child again, and playing in the park, is now looking pretty good.

What values are most important to you, both in your working life, and personally?

I place a high value on being my authentic self, and ensuring I create a safe space for others who work with me to feel they can do the same.

My energy and passion for anything and everything in life runs quite high, so I would say I really value a positive mindset in others. Both life and business can be tough, but when I get on a call with a customer who is so excited to launch a new project, I can’t help but want to be a part of it and do the best job for them I can.

Lastly, but most importantly, it is kindness and respect. Be nice to each other, listen to each other, support each other.

What are the most important issues of the day that our work can solve?

I believe that technology can make a positive impact in the world, I live and breathe that daily at Navtech Radar. I am fortunate enough to work with some phenomenally intelligent and inspiring creators.

Through our work, we are helping to provide solutions which will keep people safer, by taking them out of dangerous and dirty environments. I am extremely proud of that. However good the technology is, it should be the people we help, that gets us jumping out of bed each day.
