Navtech, our US partners, AGS, and WSDOT (Washington State Department of Transportation) install 360° radar-based AID technology for the first time in the Pacific Northwest (PNW).
The installation at the WSDOT test bed features a single KTS radar system designed to deliver automatic incident detection and traffic data from a single system. The initial technology trial is to detect pedestrians on the roadside. However, the commissioned system will also be able to demonstrate the identification of multiple incident types, including slow-moving and stopped vehicles, wrong-way drivers, traffic queues as well as count and classify capabilities.
“Our collaboration with Navtech and WSDOT demonstrates our commitment to advancing safety, improving journeys and refining traffic management,” said Arti O’Brien, President of AGS. “The system will offer unparalleled data accuracy, from detecting wrong-way drivers to delivering count data, all under diverse environmental conditions.”
The ClearWay system set up by Navtech engineers provides radar-based automatic incident detection and traffic data all from one system. Its 360° long-range radar cover the entire freeway, offering comprehensive capabilities for vehicle classification, wrong-way driver tracking, and reliable data collection in various weather and lighting conditions, supplying critical data for enhancing highway safety and management.
AGS will be working with WSDOT to deploy additional Navtech radar units across other Washington locations in the upcoming weeks.
