Navtech Radar’s high definition radars have been installed in more than 40 countries, including 20 airports worldwide. Over the last 16 years, radars have been installed and deployed to detect and track objects to provide airport perimeter security in critical locations. The patented and innovative technology is designed and manufactured in our ISO 9001 certified facilities to ensure the highest standards of quality and service.
Navtech has installed the AdvanceGuard radar surveillance system at many International Airports. Therefore, they have the experience and industry knowledge needed to deliver radar Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS) which are compliant with the standards and recommended practices (SARPs) of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
Commercial Airports typically are very large and expensive to run. Additionally, they are difficult to secure especially in adverse weather conditions. Navtech Radar’s high frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) technology is ideally suited to the challenge. The robust design of the Navtech radars, coupled with the ability to operate 24 /7 in all light and weather conditions, even in dense fog, make this ideally suited to the challenges of airport operations and perimeter security. With low installation and ongoing maintenance cost, the overall cost of ownership is very competitive compared to traditional fence detection systems. Navtech’s radar surveillance technology can deliver further cost-saving, by readdressing the balance between technology and manned security guarding.
With 360° continuous detection offering a range of up to 3000 metres, Navtech’s radar systems are the perfect solution for airport perimeter and critical security restricted area (CSRA) surveillance. Multiple overlapping radar sensors can be networked to offer site wide security coverage. In fact, these are controlled and monitored via a single PC running Navtech Radar’s sophisticated physical security information management (PSIM) software.
Fence mounted sensing or buried cable perimeter detection is effective only to detect and locate a breach of the perimeter. In the dark and in the early hours of the morning, knowing there is a breach or multiple breaches of the perimeter is of limited use. The important issue is how many intruders have entered the property. Additionally, they must answer ‘where the intruders are they heading?’ Therefore, a wide area Situational Awareness system is required for this task. This is a system that can accurately detect and track the intruders. This is part of the unique capability of the Navtech Radar surveillance system.
Navtech’s bespoke software manages all system functions, from analysing movement to creating target ‘tracks’ and controlling cameras to follow them. Also, it analyses target behaviour, assigns threat levels and allows security staff to interact if required.
With virtually no limit to the complexity of the rules that can be applied to the software, a level of pseudo-intelligent monitoring can be introduced. This closely mimics a human observer. While video analytics may appear to be able to do many of the same things, in practice it has limited coverage. It does not have accurate speed, direction and location information, and is affected by changes in weather lighting, or environmental conditions.
