Navtech Volunteers at Parkinsons.Me Community Garden

Published: 13/08/2025

On Wednesday 6th August, a team of volunteers from Navtech stepped away from their desks and into the sunshine to support Parkinsons.Mea local charity helping families in Oxfordshire and Berkshire live positively with Parkinson’s Disease.

The day of volunteering was inspired by our Kaizen suggestion scheme, where colleagues put forward ideas to benefit our workplace and wider community. One suggestion was to spend more time supporting local causes, with Parkinsons.Me quickly becoming a recommended partner. When we reached out, the charity’s head gardener was delighted to have our support.

Our team spent the day tackling two major projects in the charity’s community garden – clearing and digging out the old pond in preparation for relining, and redesigning the sensory garden to make it more welcoming for visitors. It was a true team effort, with the bonus of meeting a number of people enjoying the gardens that day.

The head gardener shared his thanks:

“On behalf of the trustees I would like to thank you all for the hard work today at the community garden. The two projects of reshaping the sensory garden and pond have been completed to a high standard, improving the garden immensely. We look forward to filling up the pond and replanting the sensory garden.”

While there is still more work to be done, including relining and refilling the pond, our volunteers left with a real sense of achievement and a desire to return. The day was a reminder of how small acts of teamwork can make a big difference for a local cause.

We’re proud to have supported Parkinsons.Me and look forward to finding new ways to give back to our community through future volunteering projects.
