Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Detection

Foreign object debris, or FOD, is a constant hazard. Even tiny objects, such as stones, can damage aircraft and cause costly delays. What’s more, detecting FOD and FOD damage can be dangerous in itself, often requiring staff to drive at speed along runways.

Navtech Radar's high performance FOD150 sensor automatically detects debris as small as 3cm x 3cm x 3cm, and makes runway hazard management straightforward, improving operational efficiency and safety.

Choose a radar-powered FOD detection sensor

When it comes to detecting FOD radar provides several advantages. Our FOD 150 sensor works in all light and weather conditions and in extreme temperatures; its 360º scanning radar works automatically to detect FOD and raise the alarm, even in complete darkness.

How does FOD detection work?

The high performance, reliable FOD 150 sensor detects dislodged aircraft parts, litter, stones and other objects as small as 3cm x 3cm x 3cm that may pose a safety risk. Each sensor rotates 360° every seven seconds. Performance is unaffected by weather or light conditions.
When the system detects a FOD item on the runway, an alarm is automatically triggered in the control room. Simultaneously, cameras will be automatically guided to provide a visual image of the FOD. The operator can then respond quickly and confidently.
