The extreme environment in Sweden during the winter months poses an issue for road users. The difficult driving conditions experienced on Sweden’s highways result in a higher than average number of incidents. Trafikverket (Swedish Transport Authority) needed to improve driver safety all year round, especially in extreme weather during the winter months.

About the project

They needed a system that continuously monitored activity on highways, providing automatic incident detection (AID) and stopped vehicle detection (SVD). It was critical that events such as slow or stopped vehicles, pedestrians and debris were detected quickly and automatically. Navtech’s ClearWay system was chosen as the solution for maximising road user safety in all weather and light conditions. Two ClearWay radars were installed to monitor a critical area of the highway.
